Katoh is an active artist and has also illustrated children's as well as adult picture books.
In the 70's, he began creating many designs and plans, working with a variety of
mediums. These items would be sold domestically as well as overseas.
After working as chief designer for a stationery company, he designed goods
incorporating ceramic, wood, melamine, glass, towel, tote bags and T shirts,
while continuing to work on illustrated books.
Gakken has published twenty of Katoh's children's books. Yet another of his books
was chosen for a prestigious Japanese children's book award.
He earned a good reputation as the designer who created the “Solarbear” character.
The book “Solarbear” was published in 2006 by Sony Magazines. It is a cute story educating

2008, he was published three additional children's books.
Katoh's creations are gaining popularity overseas and have been shown at exhibitions
such as Maison & Objet in Paris and NYIGF in New York.
His products are currently available at MoMA in San Francisco, Bon Marche in Paris
and many gift(zakka) shops all over the world.
Presently, Katoh is hard at work on many kinds of new products as well as oil paintings
to be shown at a private exhibition in New York City.
Adjacent to his studio, his own atelier shop & private gallery has become a special
destination for travelers worldwide.
